The new technology solutions including a better test for prostate cancer, a portable 3D metal manufacturing solution that will help build remote housing, and a new way to turn solid waste into sustainable diesel fuel.
The funding is provided under the third round of the Cooperative Research Centre Projects (CRC-P) initiative, supporting short-term industry-led collaborations to solve problems and deliver tangible outcomes for a range of industries like energy, mining and resources, manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture and transport.
The 13 projects funded include:

New technology to assist decision making at exploration and mining drill sites through intelligent vision, machine learning and data fusion.

Ultra-thin, flexible 3D-printed batteries that can be integrated into innovative technologies like the Internet of Things devices, wearable electronics and industrial-scale solar energy storage.

A unique process for turning solid waste into sustainable diesel fuel.

Polymer composite decking materials for replacing timber rail bridges.

A new, gold-standard diagnostic test for prostate cancer that is clinically and economically superior to current tests.
These 13 projects were selected from 35 compliant applications. The Government's investment will leverage a further $60.8 million in cash and in-kind inputs from project partners, representing $89.6 million invested in outcomes-focused research.
This builds on the Government's $57.1 million investment in 28 collaborative projects through the first two CRC-P rounds.
The CRC Programme has a long history of developing real-world solutions, and each project will apply high-quality research to solving an industry-specific issue, or developing new products, technologies or services.
By facilitating business involvement in collaborative research, the CRC Projects strongly align with the Australian Government's commitment to improve the competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of Australian industries.
The Government greatly values the program and has recently committed an additional $20 million towards CRC-Ps in the area of advanced manufacturing.
A fourth CRC-P round will open for applications from 3 July until 29 August 2017 and further funding outcomes will be announced in late 2017.
