How to cut emissions faster
Climate change, global warming, emissions targets, carbon credits, how to cut emissions faster… the list goes on and on. No matter which way you look at it the talk of fossil fuels and renewable energy sources are getting their fair share of media attention.
According to today’s experts there is an ever-growing list of what business can or should be doing to help cut emissions. But let’s be honest, many of these recommended changes are part of a long-term plan that require large investments and we probably won’t see them happen in the immediate future.
How to cut emissions with current technology?
It will take years to convert even 5% of Australia’s fleet of vehicles to alternative energy. Reducing carbon emissions from existing petrol and diesel vehicles is the fastest way to make a serious impact on carbon emissions! Since 1984, Cost Effective Maintenance have been assisting large fleet operations to reduce their energy costs and cut emissions faster. With these current climate concerns in mind, I think what we’ve developed here at Cost Effective Maintenance is important to share as it represents a means of cutting CO2 emissions, from Australia’s petrol and diesel vehicles by 6% or more. That offers an immediate reduction in carbon emissions, while lowering fuel costs.
Cutting emissions is achievable…
To immediately cut vehicle carbon emissions, the most effective approach is using existing technology to make petrol and diesel vehicles more efficient. Cost Effective Maintenance commissioned the Brisbane City Council, who operate the only state accredited vehicle emission testing (VET) facility in Queensland, to evaluate their Diesel Performance Products.
Incredibly, in a brand-new vehicle, the results proved a 4.7% overall drop in CO2 emissions during their DT80 Test procedure and a 7.8% drop under steady cruise mode. Add in CO2 emissions created from the production and distribution of fuel, and those figures become 5.1% and 8.5% respectively.
Approved government testing to cut emissions
The DT80 Test is the Australian approved standard for measuring fuel efficiency and emissions, and only authorized operators, whose equipment is certified annually, can conduct it. It’s a pretty tough test…with periods of flat to the floor acceleration, hard braking, idle and cruise.
With older vehicles, clean up benefits will provide additional efficiencies, but consider the potential for Australia, which consumes 50 billion litres of petrol and diesel pa. and accounts for 132 million tonnes of CO2! Even a conservative 5% benefit would be the equivalent of taking 1.3 million cars off the road. This proven technology has the ability to do that! TODAY!
