A hand pallet jack or hand truck is the simplest form of forklift. Unlike an electric pallet truck, it is a manual powered device that allows for the horizontal transportation of palletised goods. The user-friendly design enables workers to safely pick up and transport heavy pallets with minimal effort, reducing the chance of strain or injury. 

This type of jack is used in situations such as narrow passages and warehouses where large mechanical lifts are not able to be used due to size restraints. A common use for a hand pallet jack is to move goods from the loading dock to the workspace or storeroom to be put away. 

The operator is in full control of the jack through the use of the handle. The handle allows the operator to easily maneuver the forks under a pallet and then effortlessly lift it off of the ground. This is thanks to the hydraulic lifting mechanism. The pallet can then be transported by pushing or pulling the load to the desired location and lowered back onto the ground. 

Unlike mechanical lifts, pallet jacks only lift pallets to a maximum height of 1 meter. This reduces the chance of goods falling off of the pallet and causing injury to the operator and those around them or being damaged.
