Case study: Linatex hose wear indicator

Linatex Australia, leading manufacturer of rubber hoses used in harsh mining applications for the transportation of abrasive ore slurry approached Benbro to develop a method to determine the point at which the hose requires replacement due to wear.

In cooperation with Linatex, Benbro developed a wear sensor which is spiraly moulded into the wall of the hose.

When the hose is worn to a pre-determined point the microprocessor controlled sensor unit transmits to a custom built receiver located in the site office, the receiver connects directly into a P.C. and up to 1000 hose transmitters can be monitored utilising custom application software.

Linatex Engineering manager Gordon Marshal confirmed that the implementation of the wear indicator system could result in significant savings by the prevention of premature replacement but more importantly, prevention of premature failure of the hose due to wear.
