Moving to Tasmania and choosing Kobelco excavators have been positive steps for this landscaping business.

JP Gardens and Excavations is a family-owned and operated landscaping and excavation company determined to do landscaping the old way – ‘do it once and do it right’ – with a modern touch. The company strives to create something unique that leaves customers feeling amazing in their own way and fits all their lifestyle and outdoor-living requirements.

In the 10 years JP Gardens and Excavations has been operating, it’s tried a lot of machinery.

“We’ve been on CAT, Volvo, Hitachi, Kubota, Takahuchi…all these other brands,” said Jesse Penny, who, at 27, is at the head of a very fast-growing outfit and is totally sold on Kobelco machinery.

“I’d never been on a Kobelco before,” he said, gazing thoughtfully down the years. “We originally started out in Canberra and moved to Tassie as one of the family members was looking for a bit of a change. We loved it and haven’t moved back.

“We hired our first Kobelco from Page Hire down here at Spreyton, and they looked after us awesomely. Every business needs to grow, and since we bought our Kobelco machines we haven’t looked back. We’ve had nothing but reliability.”

The machines

Jesse has recently taken delivery of a new Kobelco SK35SR-6 with cabin to run alongside the company’s SK17SR.

The Kobelco SK17SR is a 1.7-tonne machine that’s ideal for work in tight spaces, like residential areas and industrial premises, and combines a compact design with a wide digging reach for efficient performance, excellent maneuverability, and tough durability to ensure an extended working life.

Jesse’s latest purchase, the Kobelco SK35SR, is a 3.5-tonne machine with outstanding digging performance thanks to a multiple pump flow-sharing system providing pump flow of 38.4L/min and pressure of 23.0 MPa (relief valve setting). An Energy Conservation Mode – equipped with ‘S’ mode – lowers fuel consumption by up to 25% compared to previous models.

The SK35SR includes Kobelco’s exclusive iNDr cooling system which reduces heat and dust penetration with a short tail swing for when space is limited.

The SK35SR also has standard factory-fitted quick-hitch piping, a colour LCD monitor and a unique blade design which prevents earth from falling behind the blade. Maintenance on this machine is made easy with all the start-up checks able to be performed at ground level, with an easy-to-understand layout and cover design that simplifies access and saves time.

More to come

The future’s looking good for JP Gardens and Excavations, with Jesse’s Kobelco fleet continuing to grow.

What is it he likes so much about Kobelco excavators?

“One thing was obviously dealing with Dave and Matt from DLM Machinery at St Leonards, the Kobelco dealer here in Tassie,” explained Jesse. “They’ve been bloody awesome from the start.”

In the way of Kobelco being different from other brands, overall it’s a comfy machine. Every digger’s got its own points and plusses, but the Kobelcos are smooth machines with good power, and they’re just comfortable all ’round, and you can virtually do anything from civil projects down to your small residentials.

The next purchase is already under way.

“I shook Dave’s hand and said we’d definitely be back to buy another one,” Jesse told us, “and we did. Hopefully we’ll be doing the same again in maybe a year or so’s time.”

An eight-tonner is likely to be next on the JP Gardens and Excavations shopping list, and there’s nothing surer than it’ll be a Kobelco.
