Delta DRS1000 Doppler Radar Speed Sensor
The sensor may be placed on a moving vehicle to measure vehicle ground speed. It may also be mounted in a stationary position to measure the speed of a moving object which can be anything from a thin wire passing under the sensor to a vehicle 300 metres away.
The output of the sensor is a pulse with a frequency proportional to the measured speed. The cumulative number of pulses may be used to determine distance travelled or the length of a moving surface.
The speed sensor may be used with many different types of off-the-shelf hardware such as timer/counters or digital tachometers. Or, it can be integrated into electronic control or data acquisition systems.
The DRS1000 is a speed sensor with quick response, very good accuracy and linearity. The advantages of the DRS1000 over many of the cheaper Doppler speed sensors are:
The DRS1000 is a sensor that can be deployed quickly, with little custom fixuring, to instrument land vehicles (cars, trucks, trains, construction equipment, and even roller coasters) and can be easily calibrated in place using a time-distance methodology. Other applications include bulk material handling (belt or air entrained conveyors), road and traffic monitoring, length or distance measurement, and racing performance tuning. It's also included by a number of manufacturers of vehicles using GPS-based navigations systems, as part of the dead reckoning sub-system that is used when the GPS signal is compromised.
