Posital Safety Rotary Encoders | CANopen
Increased personnel safety, minimal risk of malfunction machines, reduced costs are a few of the advantages that the safety encoder from POSITAL offers to you.
This encoder was one of the first encoders that introduced the CANopen safety protocol in the automation industry, and according to the new Machinery Directive it allows users to increase the safety and availability of machines and plants.
Optical Absolute Rotary Encoder, up to 30 bit Resolution
This safety model uses a proven optoelectronic scanning method to measure absolute position values. The single-turn sensor provides a resolution of up to 16 bit per revolution (0.05º) and the multi-turn unit registers a maximum of 16,384 revolutions (14 bit), thereby covering an overall measuring range of 30 bit.
Safety Specification: SIL CL3, PL e, Cat 4
The new encoders fulfill the requirements of IEC 61508, EN 62061 (SIL CL 3) and EN ISO 13849 (performance level e). Operated with protective extra low voltage (PELV), they are suitable for use in drive technology, lift applications, mobile machines, construction machinery, cranes and machine tools.
Transmission of "Safety Position" without PLC Check
The encoder itself is working redundant and diversitary to check the position on valid values. This offers the customer the relevant advantage to use the sensor immediately in his project without complex analysis and validation processes in the PLC. Development resources and cost can be saved to offer safety function within a short defined time frame.
Simultaneous Operation of CANopen and CANopen Safety Protocol
In many cases, safety-related devices are required to communicate with other control equipment. Therefore, the encoder is equipped with a CANopen interface which allows easy communication with other standard CANopen devices.
According to EN50325-5and CiA DS-301 the CANopen safety protocol is a great additional feature for the encoder which allows the exchange of safety-relevant data (CANopen application layer and communication profile). The user has two functional devices within one cost efficient product.
