Liquid Mixing Tank
Mixing solids into liquids can be very difficult and it is often left to the customer to carry the risk between the powder handling and the liquid processes. Fresco Systems Australasia designs, manufactures, installs and commissions complete powder handling and liquid processes. Tailored to suit each application the system is designed matching the product types with the system throughput and process requirements.
Depending of the powdered material source a silo, bag dump or bulk bag unloader will be selected with either a flexible screw conveyor or metering screw feeder used to provide a controlled metered feed into the liquid mixing tank. Variable powered feed rates are achieved by adjusting the discharge flow rates of the metering device. The liquid mixer is filled with to preset levels based on whether it is a continuous or batch mixing process. During the consultative design process Fresco will recommend the appropriate mixing technology based on past experiences. Fresco has manufactured liquid tanks up to 30,000 litres.
Obtaining good mixing / homogenising of the products is achieved by the selection of impeller speed and type to suit the relation between shear rate and viscosity of the products. The correct vortex is required drawing the powder into the mixing zone away from the sides of the mixing tank. Fixed baffles prevent swirl inside the mixer causing the liquid to move in a figure eight type pattern. Mixing times are determined by the dissolving rate of the powers or emulsifying required to suspend the solids in the liquid. A typical Fresco liquid mixing tank includes a variable speed impeller, internal baffles, hinged access hatch, safety grill and dust extraction facility. Materials of construction are always tailored to the suit the chemical properties of the products being mixed.
